100 miles West of Fort
Worth/Dallas and 60 miles East of Abilene.
The history of Eastland is unique and fascinating. Founded in 1891, the
town was named in honor of Captain William M. Eastland, who was a San Jacinto
hero and Texas Ranger. In 1917, oil was discovered and a boom of
growth was started.

June 1834 - Moved to Texas
December 1835 - served as lieutenant in battle of San Jacinto
September 1836 - enlisted in the Texas Rangers
December 26, 1842 - Captured in Mier
March 25, 1843 - Executed by Mexican Army after drawing black bean
Eastland said, "For my country I have offered all my earthly aspiration
and for it I now lay down my life. I never have feared death nor do I
now. For my unjustifiable execution I wish no revenge, but die in full
confidence of the Christian faith."
To his wife Eastland said, "I die in the faith in which I have lived,"
